Shell has finalised the disposal of Jiffy Lube International and Premium Velocity Auto to private equity firm Monomoy Capital Partners, exiting the US auto service retail business and continuing its strategy of focusing capital on its core energy operations.

Shell has completed the sale of Jiffy Lube International and Premium Velocity Auto to Monomoy Capital Partners, according to the Financial Times, marking Shell's exit from the quick-service automotive retail segment in the United States.

Jiffy Lube International is one of the largest quick-lube franchise networks in the US, with more than 2,000 service centres offering oil changes and automotive maintenance. Premium Velocity Auto is a complementary quick-service brand. Both businesses operate through a franchise model and serve the consumer automotive aftermarket -- a sector distinct from Shell's core upstream and integrated energy operations.

The sale to Monomoy Capital Partners, a US private equity firm specialising in industrial and consumer businesses, removes Shell from the direct ownership of a large-scale consumer franchise network. Shell acquired Jiffy Lube as part of a broader portfolio of retail and downstream assets that accumulated over decades of acquisitions.

The transaction is consistent with Shell's ongoing programme of portfolio simplification and capital reallocation. In recent months, the company has also agreed to sell Gulf of America deepwater assets for $1.7 billion and is in advanced discussions to divest its South Africa fuel stations business to ADNOC. Together, these disposals reduce the breadth and operational complexity of Shell's asset base while generating proceeds that can be returned to shareholders or reinvested in higher-priority opportunities.

For Shell investors, the cumulative effect of these divestments narrows the company toward integrated gas, oil trading, and lower-carbon energy -- the businesses Shell views as most competitive in a transitioning energy market.
